How to Block Pop Up Windows in Internet Explorer

The pop-up blocker component is one of the valuable features of web browsers such as Internet Explorer. It can be used to allow you to block those pop up ads that can become so annoying on many websites.

While many website owners use these ads to generate a certain amount of revenue, many web users find them less than enjoyable. This is where the pop up blocker can become quite handy to use. The pop-up blocker is designed to prevent unwanted pop ups from appearing on the computer screen right on top of the information that you are attempting to view.

Additionally, a great many pop ups are not quite so benign. The pop-up blocker has also been designed to prevent dangerous software from downloading instantaneously on your computer. This type of software is typically referred to as adware or spyware.

How to Enable/Disable Pop up Blocker in Internet Explorer

These steps can be used to either enable or disable the pop-up blocker in Internet Explorer.

1. Navigate to “Start” in the lower left-hand corner of the screen.
2. Select “All Programs” from the menu.
3. Select “Internet Explorer” to open the program.
4. Navigate to the “Tools” section of the menu that is listed across the top of the screen.
5. Select “Pop-up Blocker” from the drop down menu.
6. If “Pop-up Blocker” is selected, it is enabled. Click it to disable or turn it off. If “Pop-up Blocker” is not selected, it is disabled. Click it to enable it or turn it on.

Alternatively, you can simply open Internet Explorer using your short cut for it and complete steps 4 through 6.
